TEACH A CLASS

Virginia Secor Stranahan, founder of The 577 Foundation, was an avid reader, learner, & interested in new ideas.

In 1990, she came up with the concept of allowing individuals & groups to use her former “riding stable” facility, built in 1916, as a unique place to teach classes to the community.

She was not interested in charging rent, or making money off of the use. She was adamant that those wanting to teach here would do so because it is their passion & desire to share their knowledge to people of all ages & make it affordable to anyone wanting to learn. Therefore, we developed the following guidelines for anyone interested in teaching a class:

WHAT WE WILL DO
FOR YOU & YOUR CLASS:

  • The facility can be used daily 9am-5pm for youth, adult & family classes.
  • The facility can be used 5-10pm for adult classes (since we are not staffed during these hours we provide & orient you to a facility closing list).
  • Include your class description in a brochure, which is mailed to 1,300 people.
  • Advertise your class in local newspapers & on our website. (You may advertise your class beyond what we do as long as you coordinate it with our mailing schedule.)
  • Take reservations for your class.
  • Send invoices for payment & collect the payment for your class.
  • Follow up on no-pays.
  • Call the waiting list if someone cancels.
  • Set up the facility before your class.
  • Greet & check-in the participants at their first class.
  • Clean the facility after your class (your responsibility is to leave it as clean as you found it when you arrived).
  • Issue a check for payment after your class has been taught (check writing occurs the next Wednesday after your class).

WHAT WE ARE NOT ABLE TO DO
FOR YOU & YOUR CLASS:

  • We are not able to offer the facility to
    businesses or to promote businesses.
  • We are not a “home” for classes on a
    continuous basis.
  • We do not charge rent for the use of the facility.
  • We do not take any percentage of the fee you set for your class.

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO
TO TEACH A CLASS:

  • Write a short class description to be printed in the brochure.
  • Keep your class fee to a minimum so that it is affordable to anyone wanting to learn!
