fiber577 WORKSHOP - FELTED RESISTS & TEXTURES

Felting is an ancient art that has recently grown in popularity. This workshop will give you a strong background in many felting techniques and will challenge both experienced and brand new felting students. We will explore Nuno felting and many textural and graphic effects that can be done in felting. We will start by learning to work with a resist by making a multi-layer 3-D felted flower. Knowing how to work with a resist leads us to being able to make seamless pieces & even add seamless pockets to our purses. These are the same techniques that are used in making seamless felted garments. A large selection of felting tools and supplies will be available for your use. Each student will make a felted 3-D flower, textures samples, and a unique felted or nuno felted purse. After this workshop you will be able to look at felted items and understand the techniques that have been used so you can make your own version of them. To view a video clip of a basic nuno felting process Jeanne made for the TV show; How’s It’s Made, (this clip was translated into 122 languages and had been viewed all over the world). Visit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9EHNDPDRdU. Contact Jeanne with questions: jsarna@PageAdditions.com or 248-813-8888. Bring 3 or 4 large towels, they will get wet with soapy water. Lunch is provided both days. For more information, visit www.fiber577.com/workshops Leader: Jeanne Norman Sarna Limit: 12     Fee: $170.00

fiber577 WORKSHOP - MARBLEIZING CLOTH

We will explore the exciting and fun medium of marbleizing on cloth. Traditionally used on paper, marbleizing is an accessible process suitable for all levels of makers. Students will learn the cloth marbleizing process from beginning to end, and will have opportunities to explore within the process utilizing different techniques, fabric types and sizes. We will each begin with a smaller marbling tray (appx. 12" x 12" ) to learn the basic techniques of traditional marbling and allow for further personal experimentation. Once comfortable with this size, we will work larger on silk scarves (24" - 36" square) and/or larger pieces of cloth, depending on each student's preference. Finished marbled cloth may be complete as is, or can be used in other works, such as quilts, book/journal covers, collage, or for digital uploading to fabric printing sites like Spoonflower. Most supplies will be included, and resources for purchasing supplies for future use will be provided. Lunch is provided both days.
